At the office of Julene B. Samuels, MD., we are proud to offer aesthetic skin treatments with the new Sciton ® laser. Developed by the world's leading aesthetic laser engineers to treat many common skin care problems. Dr. Samuels and her specially trained nurses combine their skills to provide treatments for wrinkle and pore-site reduction, skin smoothing and tightening, laser hair reduction, and treatment of veins, redness and rosacea with this state-of-the-art laser system. The Sciton Profile® Contour® system uniquely combines several laser systems into one, allowing Dr. Samuels and her staff to precisely vary the depth and effect of your laser treatment for the best results specific to each patient's need.

Micro Laser Peel

If you desire smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin and are looking for more than microdermabrasion (5 microns) or light chemical peels but have little time for a prolonged healing process, then the Micro Laser Peel was designed for you. The Micro Peel is a partial-to-full epidermal peel (20-50 microns) and is performed with chilling of the skin for its numbing effect. Because this procedure abates deeper into the epidermis, it is the perfect step between microdermabrasion and full skin resurfacing.

Typically a series of 2-4 Micro Laser Peels, spaced between 6-8 weeks apart are done, but many peels may be performed to achieve the desired result. You will experience smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin, with a significant, immediate change in skin texture and tightness as compared to microdermabrasion. Skin conditions such as: wrinkles, acne scars, scars, keratoses, or pigmentary problems have been very successfully treated with this "weekend" skin peel, or Micro Laser Peel. Healing takes 1-3 days with symptoms resembling a sunburn, depending on the depth of the peel performed (measured in micros).

Laser Skin Peel

For the reduction of deeper wrinkles and deeper skin smoothing with real lightening, The Sciton ® Contour system's combination of two lasers sets a new standard for laser resurfacing, allowing Dr. Samuels to precisely vary the depth and effect of your laser treatment. Your peel will be tailored to match your skin condition and desired result, all within your allowable recovery period.

Conditions which can be treated are: wrinkles, epidermal nevi, acne scars, solar lentigines ("sun spots"), active keratoses ("age spots"), hypertrophic scars, surgical scars, and skin textural problems. Thin layers of skin are removed after topically chilling the skin to achieve desired results in a 30-40 minute in-office treatment. Recovery times vary from 5-7 days of redness and slight swelling, depending on the peel depth.

This in-office treatment has almost replaced single-session deep laser resurfacing (usually performed in the operating room), because a series of 1-4 treatments offers much less recovery time and similar results. Popular areas of treatment are the face, neck, chest, and hands.

Sciton ® Profile contains an infrared laser that can selectively target hair follicles, and is effective for more skin types than most other laser systems. Even tanned skin can be more safely treated than before, although individuals with fair skin and dark hair achieve the best results.

A system for cooling your skin will be used to remove heat as it leaves the hair follicles and should ensure a comfortable treatment. A topical anesthetic can also be provided. Treatment of large areas is quick and even due to a unique computer-guided scanning system. Temporary redness subsides within a few hours, and 3-5 treatments at intervals of 3 to 8 weeks provides excellent long term hair reduction.

The Sciton ® Clear Scan ™ laser is available for treatment of veins and redness. This is a new laser using infrared energy for the treatment of visible vessels, broken capillaries, spider veins, vascular lesions and discoloration of your skin. Unwanted vessels will be preferentially heated and become less noticeable. Popular areas are the face, neck, and legs. There is virtually no downtime and no lasting post treatment discomfort. In most cases repeat treatment is necessary for the desired result.
